|The Department of Physics at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking to fill one or more Postdoctoral Researcher positions in the area of Particle Astrophysics. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in research programs in Dark Matter, Neutrinos and Particle Astrophysics, led by Professors Carmen Carmona and Luiz de Viveiros. The successful candidate will work on the LUX and LUX¬-ZEPLIN (LZ) experiments and on detector R&D. LUX, the most sensitive dark matter direct detection experiment in the world since 2013, has ended its science run and ceased operations in 2016, making way for the construction of the LZ detector in the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in Lead, SD. LZ is a next--generation dark matter experiment that will be at least 100 times more sensitive than its predecessor. The Penn State group has a long record and expertise in the design and construction of noble liquid TPC detectors and their operation in the search for dark matter. The successful candidate is expected to play a leading role in R&D work at the Penn State laboratory, participate in the construction, commissioning and operation of the LZ experiment at SURF, as well as in the software development for LZ simulations and analysis, and the analysis of the existing LUX data. Requirements include a Ph.D. in Physics, and the ideal candidate should have experience with experimental particle astrophysics, nuclear physics, particle physics or a related field.
