|Structural Materials and Mechanics Post-Docs at InSitu/CHESS
The InSitu center at Cornell High-Energy Synchrotron Source CHESS (InSitu@CHESS) has openings for post-doctoral research associates to study the properties and performance of structural materials using high energy x-ray diffraction (HEXD) and micromechanical numerical simulations. InSitu is the center for Integrated Simulation and X-ray Interrogation Tools and training for micromechanics at CHESS in Ithaca, New York, USA. The program provides assistance to visiting user groups, with emphasis on industrial users. The successful candidate will pursue a personal research program developing next generation HEXD experiments, X-ray data processing algorithms, or advanced material models, in addition to collaborating with user groups in support of the InSitu program. We seek candidates with experience in HEXD, characterization of structural materials using other probes, and/or developing micromechanical simulation codes. A Ph.D. in mechanical/structural engineering or materials science with an emphasis on mechanics or materials characterization is preferred; a Ph.D. in other relevant physical sciences will also be considered. A solid publication record, fluency in the English language, and excellent communication skills are essential. This is a yearly appointment, but will be renewed annually based on satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
