The Department of Computer Science at Stevens Institute of Technology invites applications for a non-tenure-track teaching faculty position. The position is expected to be at the assistant professor level; however, outstanding applicants at other levels may also be considered. The appointment will preferably begin in August 2017.  

Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field, either record or promise of being an outstanding teacher, and ability to expand and improve our curriculum. Duties will include classroom teaching, student advising, curriculum development, and participation in Institute service activities. Opportunities for online teaching and curriculum development may also be available.

To be successful, a candidate should be technically up to date; energetic, articulate and engaging; able to teach applied subjects that involve program development and system building; and able to contribute to efforts for laboratory development, course and program innovation, etc.

The department is in a phase of significant and sustained growth with plans for hiring multiple  tenure-track and multiple teaching faculty members. Successful candidates will join a vibrant research environment, with 21 full-time faculty members (including five NSF CAREER awardees), 450 undergraduate majors, 500 masters students, and 25 doctoral students. Active research areas include data science, mobile health, computer vision, cybersecurity, and programming languages. Faculty research is supported by NSF, NIH, NSA, ONR, DARPA, and other federal and private funding sources. The Department of Computer Science will be the prime occupant of the institute’s new $45 million dollar state-of-the-art Gianforte building, which will add 90,000 square feet of academic and classroom space when completed in fall 2019.

Stevens is a small private university located in Hoboken, New Jersey. The institute’s size and institution-wide initiatives (including the Center for Healthcare Innovation, Data Science consortium, and CyberCorps Scholarship for Service program) make Stevens ideal for candidates interested in interdisciplinary collaborations. The institute’s strengths in biomedical and materials engineering, and partnership with Hackensack University Medical Center provide unique opportunities for biomedical impact. Stevens is also a designated NSA/DHS National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance/Cyberdefense Education and a designated National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Research.

The campus is on the Hudson River across from Manhattan, offering excellent opportunities for collaborations with nearby universities and industrial research laboratories.
