The McWilliams Center for Cosmology at Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in galactic archaeology and large survey science with Prof. Sergey Koposov. The postdoc will join the research group and is expected to be interested in exploiting existing and upcoming large astrometric, photometric and spectroscopic datasets such as Gaia, SDSS, VST, DES, DECaLS, PanSTARRS, LSST and DESI for a variety of science cases including but not limited to learning about the Milky Way structure, gravitational potential and accretion history; dark matter; dwarf galaxies, globular clusters and stellar streams around the Milky Way and nearby galaxies. Researchers interested in using detailed statistical models, machine learning and data mining techniques are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is also encouraged to collaborate with other members of the McWilliams Center, including other Physics faculty, postdocs and graduate students, and members of the Departments of Computer Science and Statistics at CMU. Carnegie Mellon is a full institutional member of SDSS-IV and LSST.

The initial appointment is for two years, renewable up to three years, contingent upon satisfactory progress. We provide a competitive salary and benefits.
