Position Description:    


The Fermilab Scientific Computing Division (SCD) is seeking graduating PhDs in the fields of Physics and/or Quantum Computing for multiple postdoctoral positions in its newly-established Quantum Information Science (QIS) initiative. The Fermilab effort will emphasize quantum algorithm development and applications for high-energy physics, as well as co-design and planning for integrated applications with hybrid quantum/classical systems. Current areas of interest include quantum algorithms and implementations for machine learning and partial differential equations. These projects involve collaborations with other Department of Energy labs and academic institutions, as well as with industry. The candidates will also have the opportunity to work on related algorithm development and applications utilizing classical computing.

The appointment will be for three years with the possibility of renewal subject to continuation of the project funding and performance.

Qualifications and Essential Job Functions

  • PhD degree in physics, computer science, or related field.
  • Either prior research experience in one or more of the following areas: quantum information, quantum algorithms, or quantum optics, or experience in other areas of theoretical or experimental physics combined with a commitment to transition to a new field of research.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  •  Creative and independent problem solving skills

In addition, the ability to travel by automobile and/or commercial air carrier both domestically and internationally may be required.
