The Cornell University Department of Music invites applications for the position of Director of Wind Ensembles and Assistant Professor (full-time, tenure-track).  The appointment will commence July 1, 2018.

Applicants should hold a doctoral degree in music or demonstrate equivalent professional achievement.  In addition to outstanding qualifications as a winds conductor, the successful candidate should understand how to foster high-level performance in a liberal arts environment, and be committed to university-wide engagement in instrumental music.  The successful candidate is expected to possess musical and intellectual breadth compatible with the goals of a major research university, as well as the requisite administrative experience and artistic vision for guiding Cornell's winds program.

Duties will include directing the Wind Ensemble(s); teaching courses in the department's Materials & Techniques curriculum as necessary; teaching conducting; advising students; and engaging in service within the Department and the University.

The candidate is expected to work closely and collaboratively with Department of Music colleagues, and exhibit potential for a distinguished career as a teacher-scholar and performing artist on national and international levels. We envision our top ensemble will provide a "lab" for composition students, and a top-notch conductor might provide doctoral and advanced undergraduate students essential consultation in topics like instrumentation and conducting. Desirable attributes include (but are not limited to) a record of innovative programming, classroom teaching experience, and a desire to work with students in an interdisciplinary liberal arts community. Applicants are requested to apply online with a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and three current letters of recommendation. Please do not send any additional materials until requested to do so. Any letters of recommendation that must be sent in hard copy may be sent to:
