The Hubrecht Institute is a research institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. Presently there are 19 research groups with a total of about 350 employees and guest researchers. In addition to a highly interactive and international scientific environment, excellent research facilities are available for imaging and functional genomics. Moreover, several model organisms are present, including C. elegans, zebrafish and rodents. The institute is situated at the Utrecht Science Park. The Hubrecht Institute is affiliated with the University Medical Center Utrecht and has close connections with Utrecht University, e.g. in the graduate school Cancer, Stem cells & Developmental biology. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The group of Dr. Jop kind currently has a vacancy for a Bioinfomatician (Postdoc/PhD) full time (38 hours/week) "Unraveling lineage specification: novel insights from single-cell epigenomics".

Description of the project: Phenotypic variation arises from the heritable acquisition of cell type-specific gene expression programs. Key in understanding cellular specification is to elucidate the epigenetic mechanism that underlies transcriptional heterogeneity. Therefore, to grasp the molecular concept behind the cellular acquisition of heritable traits it is essential to develop techniques to profile the epigenome at the single-cell level. The recently established group of Jop Kind is pioneering single-cell epigenetics. A recent publication (Kind Cell 2015) employs single-cell DamID to map the interactions between DNA and the nuclear lamina and we are currently extending on this technique, to profile key chromatin types and histone modifications in single cells. We employ these techniques to obtain novel biological insight into various biological systems including organoids (cancer and wt) and mouse early embryogenesis.

Our lab consists of experimental ("wet-lab") researchers, as well as computational ("dry-lab") researchers. By applying our novel single-cell approaches we generate large complex amounts of data that require clever and innovative new computational approaches. We are therefore currently looking to expand our team of researchers with a talented postdoc or PhD student with a background in bioinformatics. Requirements: * experience in deep-sequencing (next generation sequencing) * a good grasp of at least one data analysis language: R, python, perl * analytical skills to support genome-wide studies * a good understanding of molecular- and cell-biology Desired: * experience with techniques to map protein-DNA interactions (e.g. ChIPseq, DamIDseq) * experience with high-performance computing clusters (e.g. Sun Grid Engine)

Duration: One year with an extension after positive evaluation

Salary: According to “CAO-Nederlandse Universiteiten” (CAO-NU), depending on age and experience scale 10 excluding 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus. We offer an extensive package of fringe benefits.

Starting date: as soon as possible Location: Utrecht Science Park, De Uithof, The Netherlands
