Position Description:

*** this position has been closed, and no new applications will be accepted. ***

The Department of Classics seeks to make a new appointment in conjunction with the Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity (CSRE) at the level of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or tenured Associate Professor. We seek a colleague who will contribute fully to both units, with teaching duties shared equally between the two.

The successful candidate will have dual competencies: both in Classics (including Greek and Latin language and literature; Greco-Roman philosophy; archaeology and history of the ancient Mediterranean) and in the comparative study of race and ethnicity (as pursued by the Center for the Comparative Study of Race and Ethnicity). The successful candidate will have a PhD in Classics or a closely related field. We especially seek to promote work that broadens the investigation of race and ethnicity as complex social factors; examines how these may have shaped the course of history and contemporary society; and innovatively explores connections between ancient and modern worlds.

Applicants for the Assistant Professor rank should submit three letters of recommendation, CV, teaching statement and a writing sample. Applicants for the tenured Associate Professor rank should submit CV, bibliography, and a brief statement of research interest. Apply via AcademicJobsOnline. Applications must be received by January 31, 2018 to be assured consideration. However, the search will remain open until the position is filled. Ph.D. must be conferred by the appointment start date. The term of appointment will begin in the 2018-19 academic year.
