|The Physics Department at Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris (France) invites applications for a permanent “maitre de conferences†position (roughly corresponding to Assistant Professor) in the field of statistical or non-linear physics (theorist or experimentalist). The position will start on September 1, 2012.|
In non-linear physics, major centers of research at the Department are turbulence in classical and quantum fluids, the dynamo effect (generation of a magnetic field through turbulence), wave turbulence (the non-linear interaction of waves), acoustics of complex media, as well as mechanics including elasticity, morphogenesis and instabilities. In statistical physics, research at the Departement of physics is directed towards fundamental questions of disordered systems, non-equilibrium fluctuations, classical and quantum liquids and solids, including superfluids and super-solids, but also computational approaches and applications to complex systems such as neuroscience and biophysics. A number of research groups at the Department are at the forefront of these domains, which the young theoretician or experimentalist would reinforce.
The recruited “maitre de conferences†will contribute to the teaching activity within the department (at the undergraduate and postgraduate level). A considerable fraction of teaching will be in English, but a good command of the French language (or willingness to learn) would be an additional advantage.
In addition to a doctoral thesis and research experience, French candidates are required to be in position of the "Qualification aux fonctions de maitre de conferences". International candidates can obtain exemptions from this condition.
