The Department of Astronomy at Boston University (http://www.bu.edu/astronomy/) seeks applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position, to begin on July 1, 2024. The successful candidate will be an early-career scientist who will lead a robust research program in astrophysics and be affiliated with the Institute for Astrophysical Research (IAR; http://www.bu.edu/iar/) as well as participate fully in the Department’s teaching missions at the introductory, majors, and graduate levels. Areas of interest include the contents, structure, and evolution of the Milky Way and/or nearby galaxies, though all areas of astrophysics will be considered. Minimum qualifications include a PhD in Astronomy, Physics, Engineering, or related fields. Boston University owns and operates the Perkins Telescope Observatory (http://www.bu.edu/pto/) and has 40 nights per year on the Lowell Discovery Telescope (http://www.bu.edu/ldt/), both in northern Arizona. The resources of Boston University’s new Center for Computing & Data Sciences (https://www.bu.edu/data-sciences-center/) and its affiliated Faculty of Computing & Data Sciences (https://www.bu.edu/cds-faculty/) are available to support big data, AI, and/or machine learning endeavors in astrophysics. In addition to this position, the Department expects to search for additional faculty members over the next several years.
