Multiple Faculty Positions (open rank) in Global Health, Boston University School of Public Health

The Department of Global Health at the Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH) is excited to announce the recruitment of multiple new faculty positions. We are seeking versatile and exceptionally creative faculty motivated to understand and improve population health globally.

This is an open rank recruitment. The successful candidates will have evidence of strong potential for establishing an independent, extramurally-funded research program, a demonstrated interest in teaching, and a commitment to activist public health. BUSPH believes that the cultural and social diversity of our faculty, staff, and students is vitally important to the distinction and excellence of our research and teaching programs. We are eager to have join our ranks colleagues who support our institutional commitment to ensuring BU is inclusive, equitable, diverse, and a place where all constituents can thrive.

Boston University is an AAU institution with a rich tradition of inclusion and social justice. We are proud to be the first American university to award a Ph.D. to a woman, and we continue that tradition of educating a diverse and talented student body. The School of Public Health takes the University’s commitment even further with its own detailed plan for fostering a diverse and inclusive community.

Founded in 1976, the Boston University School of Public Health ranks as the sixth leading public health school in the country, according to the latest U.S. News & World Report graduate school rankings. It offers master's- and doctoral-level education in public health. With over 300 faculty in six departments, the School conducts policy-changing public health research, with the mission of improving the health of populations—especially the underserved—locally and globally.

The Department of Global is comprised of 28 primary faculty who are internationally recognized for their innovation in research, scholarship, and teaching. The department has dynamic research programs, all of which have a focus on racial, economic and other forms of disparities that impact global health. We have established research programs in infectious diseases (HIV, COVID, Tuberculosis and others), maternal and child health non-communicable diseases, as well as a focus on data science and other novel research methods. This vibrant research agenda informs teaching of global health as it is being redefined to promote equity and justice and is at our core for teaching and mentoring excellence. Faculty are encouraged to develop and use innovative teaching methods (such as practice-based teaching). Successful faculty candidates will be involved in research, scholarship and teaching and will have access to BU’s world-class resources and opportunities for multidisciplinary collaborations across campus and with our colleagues in Africa, Asia, Central and South America, and beyond.

Qualifications. Candidates should have a PhD, DrPH, or equivalent degree in public health or a related field, demonstrated or potential for outstanding scholarship through publication and externally funded research, as well as a demonstrated commitment to graduate education and mentorship of students. Successful candidates will be expected to lead an independent research agenda, actively engage in collaborative research; focus on teaching and mentoring master’s and doctoral-level students to ensure that they have the skills that will need for global health careers of the future; and provide service to the department, university and profession.

The School of Public Health actively seeks to enrich its student and faculty ranks, recognizing that diversity of experience deepens the intellectual endeavor. We seek to embed—within our curricular and co-curricular activities—the principle that pluralism within a learning community is a source of insight and effectiveness.

Applicants should provide a cover letter; curriculum vitae; a research statement describing their research interests and previous experience; a teaching and mentoring statement detailing their teaching experience and their approach to mentoring trainees; and a diversity statement that details how their leadership will promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice at our school via academic jobs.

Application review will begin September 15, 2022 and continue until the positions are filled.
