The Department of Romance Studies at Boston University invites applications to fill a one-year Visiting Assistant Professorship in French and Francophone Performance Studies. We seek a scholar with research and teaching interests in performance and theater history, theory, and literature from any period (with a preference for 17th century). We are especially interested in candidates whose research and pedagogy addresses the performativity of race, class, culture, gender, sexuality, disability, and/or social change.

The successful candidate will teach core courses in our undergraduate and graduate programs, and help with advising. Approaches that incorporate performance as practice would also be encouraged. Requirements include a PhD in hand by September 1, 2021 in French, Performance Studies or a related humanities field; demonstrated excellence in research and teaching; ability to offer undergraduate courses and graduate seminars; native or native-like proficiency in French and English.
