The City University of New York (CUNY) is the nation's largest urban public university. CUNY provides outstanding and innovative cross-disciplinary research and training opportunities in areas of urgent societal importance and takes pride in being a national leader in enabling upward socio-economic mobility for a diverse student body. The Graduate Center is the focal point for graduate research at CUNY. With over 35 doctoral and master’s programs, the Graduate Center fosters pioneering research and scholarship in the arts and sciences and prepares students for careers in universities and the private, nonprofit, and government sectors.

The Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC), a new 200,000 square-foot state of the art research facility in upper Manhattan, was purposely built to elevate interdisciplinary STEM research and education across CUNY. The ASRC hosts five research initiatives: nanoscience, photonics, structural biology, neuroscience, and environmental science. Research efforts are supported by 15 core facilities run by dedicated, expert research professors and that attract over 1,000 users from nearby academic, non-profit, and industrial institutions. After six years, the ASRC is now widely regarded as a unique and leading interdisciplinary research center through the breadth of its research activities, its high-end core facilities, and the deliberate cross-fertilization of research, providing unique opportunities to cultivate and support interdisciplinary research and graduate training, particularly for nanoscience.

The Nanoscience Initiative (, operates over two floors in the ASRC building, and houses state-of-the-art facilities, including experimental labs for measurement, synthesis, and nanofabrication, and a 5,000-square-foot clean room that is among the best equipped on the East Coast. The initiative has a distinct research vision in nanoscience, focused on research that connects with and is inspired by living and natural systems, with applications relevant to improvement of human and planetary health. The Nanoscience Initiative now has 70 active researchers and has established three core user facilities in Nanofabrication, Imaging and Surface Science. The Nanoscience Initiative hosts the new Center for Advanced Technologies in Sensors ( which promotes academic/industry partnerships and workforce development across CUNY.

The Nanoscience Initiative of the Advanced Science Research Center at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York is seeking a full-time tenure-track faculty member to join in Fall 2022.

The successful candidate will engage in teaching, research, and mentorship of students and other laboratory members; make key contributions to shape the ASRC's cross-disciplinary Nanoscience program and develop educational programming in Nanoscience at CUNY; and initiate new interdisciplinary collaborative projects and activities across CUNY and other research institutions in New York City.

The ASRC is committed to excellence and equity as cornerstones of its culture and mission. We welcome and encourage applications from those whose experience in research, teaching, and service show that they are prepared to contribute to our pursuit of excellence and equity.

The faculty in Nanoscience will also lead the continued acquisition of external funding from private and public funding bodies; devise innovative mechanisms to engage the general public, the next generation, and potential donors in nanoscience and the physical sciences; and ensure compliance with federal research guidelines and University policies.
