The Graduate Center (GC) is the principal doctorate-granting institution of the City University of New York (CUNY). Offering more than thirty doctoral degrees from Anthropology to Urban Education, and fostering globally significant research in a wide variety of centers and institutes, the GC provides academic training in the humanities, sciences, and social sciences. The Graduate Center is also integral to the intellectual and cultural vitality of New York City. Through its extensive public programs, The Graduate Center hosts a wide range of events - lectures, conferences, book discussions, art exhibits, concerts, and dance and theater that enrich and inform.
The Graduate Center is seeking two (2) Post-Doctoral Fellows from theorists with recent Ph.D.'s in Physics, Applied Mathematics, and related fields. The Fellows will be part of the Initiative for the Theoretical Sciences (ITS) where they will interact with resident faculty and visiting scholars. Resources will be available for Fellows to organize workshops in their specific areas of interest, as well as to participate in developmental activities related to the establishment of a strong theoretical core at The Graduate Center. Appointments will be at the level of Visiting Assistant Professor, and there will be opportunities to engage in a modest amount of teaching. For appointments to begin in Fall 2017, we are especially interested in candidates who can interact with colleagues working on a broad range of questions in the physics of biological systems, neuroscience, statistical mechanics and condensed matter physics, and quantum information. Appointments will be for one year with a possibility of extension for two years.
The Fellows will carry out research independently and in collaboration with faculty at the Initiative for the Theoretical Sciences. The incumbents will report to the Director of ITS.

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
We are especially interested in theorists with interests in the physics of biological systems, including neuroscience, in statistical physics, condensed matter physics, and quantum information.
