Position Description:

The Laboratory of Atomic and Solid State Physics (LASSP) at Cornell University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the assistant professor level, to begin July 1, 2023. We encourage applications in any and all areas of experimental condensed matter physics or physics education research. 

Areas of interest include (but are not limited to) biophysics, cold atoms and molecules, hard and soft condensed matter physics, materials, optics, quantum information and devices, statistical mechanics, x-ray physics, and physics education research. Candidates must hold a doctorate in an appropriate field. They must have demonstrated an ability to conduct outstanding research and show promise for future excellence in research and teaching within the physics department. They should be committed to enriching the diversity and excellence of Cornell’s academic community.

The research statement should include a summary of prior work and a proposal for future work. The teaching/mentoring statement should give an account of prior teaching and mentoring experience and describe the candidate’s approach, philosophy, and ambitions. The EDI statement should describe the applicant’s past, present, and/or future aspirations for promoting equity, inclusion, and diversity in their careers as researchers and educators, and/or to convey how they see these commitments continuing at Cornell.
