Position is located in Ithaca, NY, within the ILR School on the campus of Cornell University. During the COVID restrictions, this position will work remotely, until such time that the remote work restrictions are lifted based on University and unit guidelines

The School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University has an immediate opening for a Senior Extension Associate / Extension Associate – Evaluation/Data Associate in the K. Lisa Yang and Hock E. Tan Institute on Employment and Disability in the Extension/Outreach Division.

This position is responsible for developing and delivering programs and services, as well as, independently designing, developing and delivering research and related services in alignment with the strategic mission and core values of the ILR School. The position is likewise responsible for monitoring quality, impact, and outcomes of education, training, technical assistance, consulting and research activities of the program. The Extension Associate will participate with other academic staff in setting YTI and project-specific goals. In addition, the Extension Associate will actively engage and participate in both ILR and YTI general events and activities as available. This position reports to the Program Director.

The Senior Extension / Extension Associate is full-time, academic, non-tenure track, term position with an initial appointment through December 31, 2023.  The position may be re-appointed based on recommendations by the appropriate YTI Leadership (Principal Investigator), Director (s) and Associate Dean as well as available funding and work. Position rank will be determined by qualifications and experience. 

Project Related Emphasis: 

This role will develop curriculum and materials, provide technical assistance to content specialists, and support Partnership evaluation planning and implementation for the Technical Assistance Partnership (TAP) for Data and establish, implement, and monitor an evaluation plan for the State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG) Position will work with other Technical Assistance Partnerships to support twelve Office of Special Education Educational Partnership Regional Teams, which include content specialists from Regional Partnership Centers (RPCs), as well as Family and Community Engagement Centers (FACE Centers, early childhood and school age).  In addition, the position will work with the MTSS-I Center and NY Education Department in the evaluation design and implementation of the MTSS-I Project.

  • Advanced degree (Master's, Doctorate, or law degree) higher in evaluation, special education, general education, vocational rehabilitation, psychology, disability studies, adult education, or other related field.
  • Minimum of one year of experience providing professional development and/or technical assistance. 
  • Minimum of three years of experience working in K-12 education settings with educators.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and experience teaching adult learners. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in collaborative environments and to contribute to the innovation and outcome success of a team.
  • Relevant professional leadership and network development at the state and regional level.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and leading research/evaluation projects.
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, providing creative and critical independent thinking while also considering diverse opinions and approaches.
  • Significant experience and demonstrated competency in diverse qualitative and quantitative research methodology.
  • Proven ability to use and learn different software packages and web-based tools.
  • Frequent travel required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in evaluation, special education or education-related field.
  • Minimum of two to four years conducting research, training, coursework, organizational development support, and system level interventions to regional, state, or national networks.
  • Minimum of one to three years of experience providing information dissemination through the use professional development and/or technical assistance to practitioners in special education or related field.
  • Two or more years of experience working in transition for students with disabilities and the ability to demonstrate content knowledge in the area of in-person, print, and electronic mediums.
  • Demonstrated writing ability and scholarly record in the thematic content area (articles in peer-reviewed journals, articles in trade publications, research and project reports, informational brochures, policy briefs, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams and mentoring, coaching, and supervising academic and/or research personnel and graduate students.
  • One to three years of successful grant writing and grant management experience.
  • Minimum of three years demonstrated experience in large project management (e.g. several staff and budgets exceeding $500,000).
  • Professional credentials in disciplinary area, such as appropriate state and national licensure, certifications, etc.
  • Minimum three years of experience with distance learning.
  • Three or more years of experience working in K-12 special education or general education.
