Duke University Press is seeking an Exhibits Manger to plan, develop, and implement the Press’ exhibits program for approximately 100 annual academic conferences and co-op meetings.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES I. Plan, Develop, and Implement Exhibits Program for approximately 20 major academic conferences annually • select and order books and journals for each meeting; create posters, order forms, and display materials • reserve booths and furnishings; pack and ship supplies, and late-shipping books and journals as necessary • create and distribute Subject Matters e-mail newsletters to those subscribed to relevant subject areas • oversee staffing and scheduling at exhibits

II. Plan and Execute Annual Exhibits Program • approximately 20 Journals Marketing exhibits annually (choose and order titles; prepare order forms and other display materials) • five to 10 display-only exhibits annually • three to four non-academic conferences annually (trade shows, book fairs, festivals, and various events with book displays) • approximately five library conferences annually (choose and order titles, prepare order forms and other display materials) • approximately 60 annual co-op meetings

III. Oversee and Implement Policies and Procedures for Exhibits Program • represent Exhibits Program to the Press at marketing meetings, and to the marketing team • attend and represent Duke University Press publishing program at exhibits • analyze progress of exhibits program and adverse trends; make recommendations as appropriate • coordinate with other DUP work groups (books editorial, production, warehouse, fulfillment) • develop and maintain professional contacts with outside vendors, academic associations and authors • maintain workflow management system; administer data tracking system

IV. Manage and Analyze Exhibits Budget • determine budget requirements, and prepare recommendations accordingly • monitor, track and accurately report expenditures; prepare budget reports

EXPERIENCE: Work requires good written and verbal communication; analytical and organizational skills; ability to juggle numerous deadlines and details; familiarity with data management systems; strong Excel skills essential; basic Photoshop/design skills helpful; ability to work independently and with a team; comfort level with scholarly material.

EDUCATION/TRAINING: Bachelor’s degree, plus one year of related work experience. Marketing and publishing experience strongly preferred. Related skills include graphic design and ability to connect with scholarly content.
