Working title: Lab Manager

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY
The position is located at the Duke University Marine Laboratory in Beaufort, N.C. and requires travel to research sites from Virginia to Florida.

Management of Research Activities
Assist in preparation of budgets for research proposals Track expenditures against budget projections each month Process receipts in CONCUR Arrange accommodation for research team during field projects Prepare interim and final research reports to funding agencies

Data Management
Primary responsibility for field data collection, including QA and QC Maintain internal archival relational databases Manage data accounts on external data portals, such as OBIS-SEAMAP, Movebank, and ATN Respond to data requests from students and colleagues

Analysis
Spatial analysis of animal movement from telemetry deployments using GIS Photo-identification analysis for Jacksonville, Florida catalogs 

Field Work
Conduct field operations in multiple locations, sometimes on weekends and holidays Photo-identification of a variety of cetacean species Assist with preparation and maintenance of field gear

Minimum Qualifications

Education 
Master’s degree in the natural sciences preferred, may be substituted by a bachelor’s degree and extensive research experience.

Experience 
Experience conducting spatial analysis (ARGIS Pro), using R and relational databases (Access). Experience conducting field work with cetaceans, including small boat handling and photo-identification, is highly desirable.
