*** this position has been closed and new applications are no longer accepted. ***

The Department of Engineering at Harvey Mudd College invites qualified candidates to apply for a faculty position as the Professor of Engineering Management and to be the inaugural Director of the Engineering Leadership Program (ELP). The selected candidate will bring extensive industry work experience in leadership roles, and be able to excel at teaching in a general engineering program that emphasizes technical competency and professional development with the goal of preparing the next generation of engineering leaders. The Department recognizes that technical ability alone does not guarantee success in future leadership roles for its graduates and has developed a plan for a new Engineering Leadership Program (ELP) to provide training and practical experience in leadership fundamentals.

The Engineering Management Professor, as Director of the ELP, will lead a team of faculty in the development of course materials and will teach courses in a number of areas such as financial acumen, creation of value, organizational structure and behavior, team development, strategic planning, business plan development, management of projects, enterprises, risk, and innovation.

Qualifications of the ideal candidate will include a record of professional practice and development as an engineer who has assumed growing levels of responsibilities managing clients, engineers, engineering projects, and engineering enterprises. The ideal candidate must be able to blend their technical knowledge with an understanding of the behavioral elements of leadership and how to motivate students to excel as engineers. The candidate must have completed an undergraduate engineering degree and, preferably, a graduate degree in engineering, an MBA, or a Masters in Organizational Development (a PhD is not required). A certification in coaching would be a plus. A professional engineering license is valued but is not required.

Applicants should submit: a cover letter, a curriculum vitae or resume, evidence of meeting the above requirements, and contact information for three references. Candidates may also submit any additional information as evidence of their abilities to teach and train engineers. For full consideration, applications should be received by February 28, 2022, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Candidates must be committed to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population, particularly groups traditionally underrepresented in engineering; candidates from these groups are encouraged to apply. Harvey Mudd College is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer committed to providing a workplace free of discrimination, harassment, and disrespectful or other unprofessional conduct.
