Position Description:

The quark matter research center at the Institute of Modern Physics (IMP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) invites applications for postdoctoral research associates to work on STAR experiment. The successful candidates are expected to participate in analysis of data to be collected in the STAR Beam Energy Scan II program, as well as related shifts and detector calibration work. We encourage a wide range of analysis with emphasis on the search for signal of the first-order phase transition and the possible critical point in the QCD phase diagram. The candidate would be based at Lanzhou with possible stays at Brookhaven National Lab depending on the applicant’s preference and the experiment needs. The IMP is the most comprehensive research institute for nuclear physics in China. It has large nuclear experiment facilities including the accelerator storage ring complex HIRFL-CSR. In addition, IMP is in charge of constructing a new complex High Intensity heavy ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF) at a new site in Huizhou, Guangdong province. The newly formed quark matter research center is in a fast-expanding stage. It will greatly enhance the research activities in the high-energy nuclear collisions. This would provide unique future career potential to young scientists.

IMP offers a competitive salary of 150k Chinese yuan per year, plus another possible add-on of 100-200k Chinese yuan per year if winning the national or CAS post-doc supporting program. The appointment is initially for two years. The expected applicants should have a Ph.D degree in particle physics and/or nuclear physics by the date of appointment. Experience with data analysis in big collaborations is preferred.

Applicants will be required to submit a CV, a cover letter briefly describing research interests, list of publications, statement of research interests through AJO. Review of the applications will begin immediately and will continue until all positions are filled.
