Postdoctoral Position in Many-body Quantum Theory for Strongly Correlated Materials
Lehigh University

The Department of Physics in the group of Dr. Chinedu Ekuma at Lehigh University (LU), is seeking an outstanding and highly motivated postdoctoral research associate within the area of strongly correlated materials using Dynamical Mean Field Theory (DMFT).

The successful candidate will enhance computer codes for strongly correlated systems based on DMFT in order to investigate and leverage functionalization approaches such as defect engineering to better understand the role of defects in strongly correlated materials.

We have a broad and flexible focus when it comes to the employed methodologies (effective Hamiltonians and models within DMFT, many-body perturbation theory, density functional theory, and high-throughput materials informatics and machine learning), the target properties (electronic, optical, magnetic, topological), and the potential technological applications (optoelectronic devices and quantum information). These areas will be covered by several interrelated Ph.D. and postdoctoral projects.

The group has strong connections to local experimental groups within LU and National Labs. such as the Sensors and Electron Devices Directorate (SEDD) at the U.S. Army Research Lab. ALC, MD.

Requirements
A Ph.D. or equivalent in theoretical/computational physics or chemistry is required. The successful postdoctoral applicant must have a solid background in many-body theories such as the Anderson-Hubbard model and electronic structure calculations of strongly correlated materials. Programming in FORTRAN should be a strong strength for the applicant. It is necessary to have excellent communication skills in both spoken and written English. Self-motivation is a desirable trait.

Other Desirable Skills

The candidate should be familiar with (or willing to learn about) first-principles many-body approaches (especially DMFT + DFT) and machine learning.

Salary and terms of employment
LU offers a highly competitive salary package. The period of employment is for two years with the possibility of extension for a third year upon mutual consent. The position is available immediately and will remain open until filled.

Application procedure
Your completed online application must be submitted no later than April 30, 2023. The file must include:

  • Application (cover letter)
  • CV
  • Research Statement
  • Academic Diplomas (MSc/PhD)
