The Laboratory for Multiscale Regenerative Technologies (LMRT) at MIT seeks a postdoctoral researcher who is an experienced computational biologist / data scientist to join Dr. Sangeeta Bhatia and her team in our fight to stop lung cancer. Our science merges the design and application of engineering tools from MIT with the biologically-relevant throughput of the Broad and the clinical access we have via Harvard, MGH, and the Brigham. We are making early diagnostics to find tumors and to diagnose other diseases ahead of the current clinical curve. We are delivering interventions that engage targets that were previously unrecognized and/or unreachable. We are tracking resolution of disease using non-invasive, globally-relevant tools. And we think we can make all of the above even better by leveraging the untapped pools of data that each of these efforts produce. We need you to help us bring our findings to the next level.

In this exciting role, the postdoctoral researcher will design experiments, manage data, and use advanced statistical, machine learning, as well as computational techniques to discover new targets for the design of next generation diagnostic and early detection technologies for various cancers, including protease activity-based nanosensors (our flagship technology) with the goal of detecting and stratifying disease early enough for interception. The postdoctoral researcher will collaborate with various teams within the Koch Institute for Integrative Research to guide the development of molecules against those targets with data-driven biomarker plans, and have the opportunity to engage with other team members who work in parallel on other tumor types and pathologic states. Key responsibilities include: engaging with various project teams within and beyond LMRT to define scientific questions that can be addressed with computational, statistical, or modeling capability; proposing analysis strategies for target discovery and help devise statistical methods for deciding significance, and ranking schemes for integrating data from many sources; identifying protease targets and biological contexts in which the nanosensors are likely to be beneficial by mining genetic, genomic or screening data; and developing biomarker plans in collaboration with project teams.

Requirements: Ph.D. in a computational biophysics or bioinformatics-related fields; strong communication and presentation skills with a successful track record of collaborating with cross-functional project teams; excellent interpersonal and team skills; demonstrated ability to lead projects of moderate scope, mapping-out critical path, milestones and timelines, with careful attention to detail.
