The Macalester College Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science invites applications for a non-tenure-track visiting position to begin Fall 2024. We seek a specialist in Statistics and/or Data Science. Preferred candidates will have a PhD (completed or near completion) in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field. We will work with our new colleague to design their teaching load, ensuring a limited number of distinct course preparations. This individual will participate in all aspects of the program and can receive mentorship in teaching, curricular design, and research. They will also have the option to teach a small seminar, gaining valuable experience supervising undergraduate research.

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Salary and benefits are competitive. This is a one-year position with the possibility of renewal for a second year, pending review of teaching.

About the MSCS Department: The Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science (MSCS) Department offers four distinct majors: Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, and Computer Science. MSCS has 7 full-time statisticians and several other math and computer science faculty who contribute to the Statistics curriculum. It is the largest department on campus in terms of enrollments and majors – roughly 20% of the 2023 graduating class (approximately 100 students) earned at least one MSCS major. Our faculty embrace the rich multidisciplinary, collegial, and collaborative nature of our joint department. We value pedagogical and curricular innovation, undergraduate research mentoring, and outreach to the vibrant Minneapolis and Saint Paul metropolitan community.

3) two reference letters, at least one of which discusses your experience and potential as a teacher,

4) a teaching statement: a statement of your experience in, commitment to, and vision for teaching and mentoring undergraduate students. Discuss pedagogical approaches (e.g., inclusive teaching, active and innovative teaching strategies, assessment of learning outcomes), future teaching development goals, and courses you’d be passionate to teach, and

5) a diversity statement: a statement (no longer than 2 pages) that discusses past experiences, demonstrated activities, and vision for contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in your teaching, advising, and mentorship.

Candidates who are interested in supervising undergraduate research are also encouraged to submit a research statement.
