The ATLAS group at Northern Illinois University (NIU) seeks outstanding candidates for a Research Software Engineer to work on the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. The successful candidate will play key roles in the new Event Filter (EF) Tracking project, which aims to use commodity hardware-based solutions to provide charged particle tracking for the ATLAS trigger system during the HL-LHC era. In particular, the candidate will focus on overlapping areas between the ACTS software project and the EF Tracking group, including simulation of FPGA algorithms, configuration and studies of track fitting from FPGA output, interfacing hardware and the ATLAS tracking EDM and documentation and support for ACTS users within the EF Tracking community.

Successful candidates will have a degree in physics, computer science or a closely related field. Though a PhD is encouraged, it is not required for the position. The initial appointment will be for one year, and is renewable contingent upon mutual satisfaction and continuation of funding. The position can be based either in the US at NIU's campus or at CERN. Women and members of other underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
