Position Overview

This position is partially funded by Ohio State's Discovery Themes Initiative, a significant faculty hiring investment in key thematic areas in which the university can build on its culture of academic collaboration to make a global impact.

The Ohio State University Discovery Themes initiative aims to increase our research capacity and excellence. We seek a creative individual with an outstanding research record for a tenure track faculty position in the Discovery Theme area of materials and manufacturing for sustainability.

The position focuses on the general subject area of thermal energy conversion and/or storage. Potential research areas may include (but are not limited to) thermoelectric energy conversion, solar thermal energy conversion, novel phase-change materials and concepts, among others. Experimentalists are preferred, although individuals with an extraordinary record in theoretical/computational work will also be considered. The position involves setting up an active research group in this subject area, interacting with existing groups, participating in interdisciplinary research, and making optimal use of the extensive on-campus research resources of the university. The successful candidate is also expected to excel at teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level, including core classes in the Mechanical Engineering curriculum.

Experience Requirements

Required: PhD in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Materials Engineering; Physics; Chemistry; or related field. An outstanding record of research in a field related to the study of thermal forms of energy is also required.

The Ohio State University College of Engineering is strongly committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in all areas including scholarship, instruction and outreach.  In the cover letter, describe experiences, current interests or activities, and/or future goals that promote a climate that values diversity and inclusion in one or more of these areas.
