College Overview

The College of Engineering offers 14 undergraduate and 13 graduate programs in 12 departments or centers, as well as three undergraduate and four graduate degrees in the Knowlton School of Architecture, to approximately 10,000 students. The college has recently expanded its degree offerings with a BS in Engineering Technology available on the regional campuses of the university. The college is one of the largest and impactful institutions in the field with 405 engineering and architecture faculty members. Included in this total are 328 tenure track faculty, 54 clinical track faculty, and 23 research track faculty. Department Overview

One of the largest, leading materials programs in the country, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at The Ohio State University aims to transform how materials are synthesized, developed, processed, characterized and joined. We translate this innovation into educational experiences that expose students to state-of-the-art experimental and computational techniques, delivering the required preparation and skills to be leaders in the materials industry and academia. The department is ranked 12th amongst all departments nationally and is ranked 7th amongst public universities (based on USN&WR 2021), and is internationally recognized in the areas of materials characterization, materials modeling, welding/joining, and corrosion science.

Position Overview

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (https://mse.osu.edu/) and the Center for Electron Microscopy and Analysis (CEMAS, https://cemas.osu.edu/) at The Ohio State University invite applications for a regular clinical-track faculty appointment in materials characterization. Appointment is anticipated at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Ohio State has a long tradition in electron microscopy research and expertise. With >$39M of state-of-the-art instruments housed within a custom designed environment CEMAS is widely recognized as one the premier electron microscopy facilities in the world. The successful candidate will be expected to provide instructional support to leverage the extensive characterization equipment at CEMAS into the MSE undergraduate/graduate courses, to teach core undergraduate and/or graduate courses and to advance the modes of instruction to leverage new technology, including a recently constructed digital theater and technology that permits remote operation of CEMAS equipment. Specifically, the successful candidate will develop and deliver courses on the theory and practice of techniques including as transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, focused ion beam microscopy and X-ray diffraction and imaging.

Required Qualifications

doctoral degree in materials science and engineering, or in a closely related field, or equivalent experience.
