Stanford University is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Italian with a starting date of September 1, 2019. As part Stanford’s Division of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages – an innovative consortium of departments that collaborate on curricular and research initiatives – the Department of French and Italian at Stanford fosters comparative and interdisciplinary work. Candidates will be expected to teach courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, with preference given to those who have broad competency in the history of Italian literature and culture and can teach different time periods, from medieval to modern. Native or near native fluency in Italian and English is required; fluency in one or more additional languages is preferred. Candidates are expected to have the Ph.D. in hand by the appointment start date (September 1, 2019) and must demonstrate a distinguished record of scholarly publication as well as excellence in teaching.
