Investment Responsibility Stakeholder Relations, Stanford University

Considering the views of the campus community has long been part of Stanford's approach to considering questions relating to the responsible investment of the university's endowment. Stanford has had an investment responsibility policy - the Statement on Investment Responsibility - since 1971. In that same year, the University formed a committee consisting of members from the Stanford community to discuss and provide input on investment responsibility issues at Stanford. To improve the responsiveness of the process, Investment Responsibility Stakeholder Relations (IRSR) has been created, reporting to the President's Office, to serve as a single point of contact for the campus community and a liaison to university leadership. The mission of the IRSR is to enhance Stanford's ability to manage and engage with the campus community on issues of investment responsibility. IRSR achieves its mission by fielding requests for review of investment responsibility issues, coordinating with campus constituencies, and working closely with the Advisory Panel on Investment Responsibility and Licensing (APIRL) and the Board of Trustees' Special Committee on Investment Responsibility (SCIR).
