GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

The University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School is seeking a dynamic a goal-oriented individual to lead the Office of Admissions as associate dean. The Associate Dean for Admissions is responsible for providing leadership, strategic planning, oversight, and management of the Office of Admissions for the School of Medicine (T.H. Chan School of Medicine) and its related admissions processes and programs. The Associate Dean for Admissions provides leadership for and collaborates with the T.H. Chan School of Medicine admissions committee. 

 MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Oversight of the T.H. Chan School of Medicine admissions committee and admissions process, serving as chair of the T.H. Chan School of Medicine admissions committee. 
  2. Development and implementation of short-term and long-range strategies for achieving the goals of the Admissions Office and admissions process, consistent with the overarching goals of the T.H. Chan School of Medicine and the UMass Chan campus. In consultation with the Dean, the Senior Associate Dean for Educational Affairs, the Admissions Committee and relevant T.H. Chan School of Medicine governance groups, the associate dean develops and implements policies and processes for the composition and admission of the medical school class, aligned with institutional goals. 
  3. Serve as the representative and leader for T.H. Chan School of Medicine admissions to UMass Chan constituencies and programs including faculty, T.H. Chan School of Medicine applicants, students, and other diverse groups and programs sharing an interest in T.H. Chan School of Medicine admissions. These programs include the UMass Chan pipeline programs, Health Sciences Preparation Program, UMASS Chan diversity initiatives, MD PhD program and other degree programs as may be required to advance the mission and goals of UMass Chan and the T.H. Chan School of Medicine. 
  4. Serve as the representative and leader for T.H. Chan School of Medicine admissions to external constituencies including the UMass campuses and President’s Office, accreditation, and oversight bodies (including NEASC, LCME and AAMC), premed advisors and undergraduate campuses, regionally and nationally, as required to advance the mission and goals of UMass Chan and the T.H. Chan School of Medicine.  
  5. Oversight of the School of Medicine Admissions Office and its administrative responsibilities including document development (e.g., T.H. Chan School of Medicine catalogue, admissions handbook), admissions website; admission data management, tracking and reporting, and support for the admissions process, including the admissions committee, applicant interviews, and those programs and initiatives sponsored by the admissions office. 
  6. Serve as the leader and champion of programs and initiatives sponsored by the admissions office, including: 
    •  The Baccalaureate MD program and its related admissions processes and committees. 
    •  Holistic review and related diversity initiatives 
    •  Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) 
 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Doctoral or other terminal degree, MD degree strongly preferred 
  • Minimum of five years leadership and management experience (people and projects) in complex organizations; prior experience preferred in an administrative leadership role and in admissions related work in academic medicine. 
  • Sound strategic planning and project management experience. 
  • Ability to anticipate and resolve problems and provide leadership for committees or teams. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as evidenced by preparation of oral and written materials including presentations, proposals, reports, and memoranda both technical and confidential in nature. 
  • Capacity to manage complex operational priorities, using data systems to support decision making Ability to exercise diplomacy, establish effective working relationships and maintain the highest degree of professionalism and integrity in dealing with faculty, applicants, students, and staff and managing confidential student/applicant information 
  • Demonstrated evidence of commitment to the development of diversity within and across organizations with attention to equity and the creation of inclusive environments. 

 SUPERVISION RECEIVED: The Associate Dean for Admissions, T.H. Chan School of Medicine reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Educational Affairs.
