Position Description:

Yale-NUS College, a collaboration between the National University of Singapore and Yale University, seeks a dynamic and flexible administrator and teacher to support faculty across the disciplines and to lead the Yale-NUS College Writers’ Centre. The Director will be appointed as an Associate Professor on the non-tenure Educator track with an initial three-year term contract. Candidates with substantial scholarship in the field may be considered for a tenure-track/tenured position.

As a small liberal arts college, Yale-NUS teaches writing through an interdisciplinary Common Curriculum and through disciplinary coursework. The Director of Writing will work collaboratively with faculty to support the teaching of writing in their courses and assist students through peer tutoring, workshops, and other events. Responsibilities will include: supporting the faculty in teaching writing in the Yale-NUS Common Curriculum and in the disciplines; hiring and training a cohort of peer undergraduate writing tutors; supervising three Writers’ Centre Lecturers (experienced teachers and tutors who provide individual and small group writing support) and a college-wide writing workshop series; working with the programme manager to support the day-to-day operations of the centre; and teaching one course each semester.

This position requires a Ph.D. and significant experience with writing in the disciplines, writing centres, and multilingual writing. Strong candidates will demonstrate experience in developing faculty networks and support for writing tailored to the unique needs of their institutions. They will also have experience with writing centres that support writing in all disciplines. Interest and experience in working with multilingual writers is preferred.

The appointee will be expected to begin duties in time for the start of the 2019-2020 academic year. Salary, benefits, and leave policies are competitive at an international level.

Applications should consist of a cover letter explaining why the position at Yale-NUS is of interest; a full curriculum vitae; statements on research interests (if applicable) and teaching experience and philosophy, including fit with the College’s mission and curriculum; three reference letters (to be submitted by the reference writers via AJO); and other relevant documents.

Applications should be submitted via https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/YaleNUS. The review will begin on 1 November 2018 and continue until the position is filled. First-round interviews will be held at the 2019 Modern Language Association (MLA) Convention in Chicago or via videoconference in early January.
