Yale Climate & Energy Institute Postdoctoral Fellowships
Yale Climate & Energy Institute (YCEI) announces its 2013 post-doctoral fellowships. YCEI seeks to understand the science of Earth’s climate system and to provide realistic, implementable solutions to the ecological, economic, and social impacts of climate change. Postdoctoral fellows are an integral part of the Institute, helping to shape its research agenda and its core activities—including research workshops, public outreach through its policy forums and online publications, and engagement with graduate and undergraduate teaching and research programs at Yale.
Fellowships are available in all disciplines, from natural sciences and engineering to social sciences and humanities. Priority will be given to applicants who are self-motivated, can leverage existing YCEI faculty expertise, and are ready to push the envelope on current theoretical and policy issues in the field of climate and energy. YCEI is interested in applicants also willing to develop multidisciplinary research projects, working in teams.
Eligibility and Award:
Applications are accepted from individuals who will have been awarded a doctoral degree at any time within the period from July 2010 to July 2013. YCEI fellowships are normally awarded for two years, subject to adequate progress during the first year and to availability of funding. The award provides a stipend of $50,000 per year, a research allowance, plus health care benefits and assistance with relocation. .
Yale PhD graduates or individuals already in residence at Yale are not eligible for awards.
The process on the online portal requires submission of a resume, a list of publications, a sample of recent work—a manuscript or reprint—and four letters of reference. One of the letters of reference should be from a faculty sponsor at Yale.* In addition, candidates must submit a short statement (1200 words, maximum) outlining a research project to be undertaken during the fellowship. The statement may include a proposed research budget, or other requirements necessary to carry out the work.
The deadline for receipt of all application materials is January 31, 2013. Decisions will be announced by April 15, 2013. Successful candidates are expected to begin their program at Yale by July 1, 2013.
*All Yale faculty members are eligible to sponsor YCEI postdoctoral fellows. A faculty member will normally be limited to sponsorship of one candidate per year and will be expected to provide infrastructure—for example, office space and a research lab.
Yale University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer; applications from women, minority and international scientists are strongly encouraged.
