The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Temple University invites applications for multiple tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in civil infrastructure and environmental disciplines. Appointments at higher ranks may also be considered for individuals demonstrating exceptional professional achievements. In the environmental discipline, the preferred areas of expertise include, but are not limited to: disinfection, groundwater, hydrology, resource recovery and water reuse, and innovative materials/processes in water treatment. In the civil infrastructure discipline, the preferred areas of expertise include: structural analysis, traffic safety and operations, innovative materials and infrastructure durability and health. Both, experimental and computational approaches are of interest in both disciplines. The expertise of the candidate is expected to complement existing expertise in the Department.

Applicants must have undergraduate and doctoral degrees in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related field, and a record of excellent scholarly accomplishments. Significant postdoctoral experience is highly recommended. Applicants at higher rank should demonstrate sustained and strong externally funded research, excellent teaching record, and successful student advising on research. Salaries for new faculty are highly competitive, and substantial resources have been allocated for start-up funding. The successful candidates are expected to develop an active, externally-funded research program, and to teach undergraduate and graduate courses offered in the department as well as courses in their specific area of expertise.

The College of Engineering at Temple University is poised for transformational growth through significant hiring within the College to expand its intellectual and research capabilities. The CEE Department is one of the fastest growing departments in the college with vibrant and successful undergraduate, graduate and research programs, and with the recent introduction of BS in Environmental Engineering. The Department has over 450 students, and current research funding exceeds $3 million. The Department hosts a National Science Foundation I/UCRC Water and Environmental Technology (WET) Center, and a number of industries and agencies are recent research sponsors. They include the EPA, NOAA, DoD, NSF, NIH, various DOTs, PA DEP, PA DCED, EPRI, Philadelphia Water Department, and the Department also has a master services agreement with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
