Fermilab's Helen Edwards Summer Internship program (formerly PARTI) is a ten-week summer internship (June 25 – August 31) for students majoring in physics and engineering at universities in Europe. This internship offers the opportunity to work with Fermilab scientists and engineers at the frontier of scientific research in the physics and technology of particle accelerators.

Internship support includes:

  • Hourly wage based on a 40-hour work-week, subject to U.S. taxes excluding Social Security deduction
  • Shared housing
  • Shared use of a rental car
  • Transportation to and from the airport



  • 18 years of age by the program start date, June 25, 2018.
  • Enrollment at an accredited university/college in Europe and completion of at least one full academic year at university/college at the time of application.
  • Minimum 4.0 Grade Point Average (in 2-5 grading system).
  • Conversational and written English fluency.



  • Accepted program participants must:

-   have medical insurance while at Fermilab.

-   provide identification, as well as evidence of authorization to work in the United States.

-   respect, understand and value individual differences that embody the principles of diversity.

-   abide by all environment, safety, and health regulations.


Foreign nationals who are not US citizens and were born in, are citizens of, or represent or have ongoing affiliations with Iran, Sudan and Syria must provide additional information to be considered for access to Fermilab. Advanced federal review and approval is required before an individual may visit or receive an identification badge for unescorted access at a Department Of Energy (DOE) facility; this process can take many months and possibly longer than a year.
