Position Description:    

Position Overview: Merrimack College, located in the Boston-area, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Studio Arts, tenure-track, commencing fall of 2018. Individuals should be interested in working within an exciting, growing academic environment, with a contemporary perspective on how the studio arts intersect sustainability —in both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional applications that are rooted in both historical and contemporary contexts. Applicants should be versed in developing exciting new courses in varied media, including digital technologies. Successful applicants will have professional careers as creative and distinctive artists within an art-making discipline. The Department seeks applicants with a vision to grow the Studio Arts by promoting the program, actively recruiting students, and exhibiting a strong commitment to community outreach and interdisciplinary collaborations.

Required Qualifications:

MFA by contract start date as well as 1year full-time or 5 years part-time teaching experience.

Thorough knowledge of discipline’s history, contemporary processes, criticism, and technology integration

Ability to teach 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional studio courses

Ability to teach foundational and advanced courses as well as mentor senior coursework

Professional demonstration of excellence in the studio arts

Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the employment without assistance from the Institution. International candidates must hold a valid US working permit

Preferred Qualifications:

Interest in sustainable practices in art-making, or in artistic expression of environmental issues as well as a desire to identify and foster creative and innovative interdisciplinary collaborations.

Primary Responsibilities:

Teaching load is 3/3 (3 courses per semester)—first year will be 2/3

Teaching courses across all levels of the studio arts from 2D Design to Senior Thesis

Student advisement, College and Departmental service and governance

Continue to pursue research/creative activity in the discipline and build a substantive record of professional/peer recognition

Develop interdisciplinary partnerships with other College programs
