Position Title: Postdoctoral fellow in Statistical Genomics

Duties and Responsibilities: A postdoctoral research fellow position is available in the Department of Statistics for the development of statistical methodology and numerical algorithms in the genomic analysis of high-throughput sequencing data from heterogeneous tumor samples. This position will be responsible for developing novel statistical methods and efficient algorithms for analytical challenges in cancer genomics, and collaborating with nutritionists, clinicians and geneticists on making biological findings in large genomic datasets.

This position is offered under the National Cancer Institute T-32 training program “Nutrition, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Training Grant” (PIs: Dr. Raymond J. Carroll and Dr. Nancy D. Turner), and will be supervised by Dr. Valen Johnson at Texas A&M University and Dr. Wenyi Wang at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Part of the training involves working directly in labs to learn about the experiments and basic biology involved. Subject to satisfactory progress, the term of appointment is two years with a possibility of extension to a third year.

Position Qualifications: Qualifications are a Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field, strong programming skills, and experience in analyzing next-generation sequencing data. Candidates with prior experience in implementing Bayesian methods in high-dimensional models and analysis of genomic data in cancer are preferred. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or have permanent resident status.
