Research Associate

Theoretical Physics Group, Department of Physics

South Kensington Campus

Salary Range: £36,800 - £44,220 per annum*

Fixed Term for: 2 years

Starting Date: No later than October 1 2018

Applications are invited for up to two Research Associate (RA) positions in the Theoretical Physics Group of the Department of Physics at Imperial College London. Appointments will be for two years, with possibility of extensions for exceptional candidates. One of the position will be funded by an ERC Consolidator Grant titled “Massive Gravity and Cosmology” and the other by Simons Foundation’s Origins of the Universe initiative, “Cosmology Beyond Einstein’s Theory”. The RAs will work with Dr Claudia de Rham and will also interact with other members of the Theory Group.

The successful candidate must have a PhD degree in Theoretical Physics (or an equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience).

Essential criteria include outstanding research experience in theoretical and/or observational tests of modified gravity, cosmology, quantum field theory, effective field theory approaches or related topics. The candidates will have experience in carrying out research of high quality, independently and in a team, with evidence provided by publications of high quality. It is also desirable that the successful candidate has experience in developing and testing consistent models of modified gravity and be familiar with theories of massive gravity.

The successful candidate will be expected to help produce independent and original research within the Theoretical Physics group and submit publications to refereed journals and help with administration of small research groups.
