You will join a team with expertise in chiral effective field theories and their application to nuclear forces and to few-body physics, and with links to groups in the US and Germany.  You will work on the calculation of Compton scattering in light nuclei, building on prior work in the single nucleon sector, with the aim of interpreting up-coming experimental results in order to extract the proton and, particularly, neutron polarisabilities. Opportunities to extend the research according to your own interests will also be available.

You should have, or be about to obtain, a PhD or equivalent in a relevant area of Physics. You should have a knowledge of effective field theories and nuclear forces, and must have substantial computing experience.  Familiarity with few-body techniques will be a major advantage. You should be capable of working under your own initiative and co-supervising research students, so excellent communication and organisational skills are required.
