Duke University Thompson Writing Program Lecturing Fellows*

Duke's Thompson Writing Program is a nationally recognized leader in preparing scholars across fields to successfully integrate writing pedagogy into their discipline-specific teaching. We anticipate offering several Lecturing Fellow* positions for PhDs in a broad range of STEM or policy fields with an interest in developing their teaching abilities and gaining substantial undergraduate teaching experience. Successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary faculty charged with teaching an innovative first-year course in Academic Writing.

This year we seek candidates with a Ph.D. in public policy, STEM, or quantitative social science disciplines, including but not limited to biology, chemistry, computer science, economics, environmental sciences, health sciences, physics, political science, psychology, sociology, and statistics. Following an intensive preparation and mentoring seminar, Fellows will draw on their disciplinary training and interests to design seminar-style courses introducing students to academic writing. Teaching load is four sections of Academic Writing per year, with each section limited to 12 students. Fellows will also have access to professional development opportunities, and a mentor in their own or a closely related discipline. This appointment is for three years, non-renewable, at a level of Lecturing Fellow* (non-regular-rank), starting July 1, 2018. Salary is competitive with a strong benefits package, and with opportunities for professional development. PhD required. Applicant must hold or anticipate receiving PhD before July 1, 2018.
