The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Uppsala University, Sweden invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position in theoretical particle physics starting September 1, 2018 or as agreed upon.

The postdoctoral project is focused on physics beyond the Standard Model, in particular extended Higgs sectors, and related areas. We are in particular considering the connection between the scalar sector and the electroweak phase transition in the early universe, and various phenomenological aspects of this.

The senior members of the theory group are Rikard Enberg, Gunnar Ingelman and Stefan Leupold. There is also a large hep-th theory group in the department, and experimental groups in ATLAS and IceCube. See for more information.

The successful candidate will be appointed for two years, and the position is financed by a grant from the Carl Trygger Foundation that consists of a scholarship that will be paid directly to the postdoctoral fellow by the foundation. There are also funds for travel to conferences and for collaboration. The theory group is furthermore a node in the Horizon2020 RISE network NonMinimalHiggs, with funds for extended research visits of group members to the other nodes in the network.

The candidate must have a doctoral degree in Physics or equivalent. Advanced theoretical physics, in particular quantum field theory, particle physics and programming skills of relevance to the subject matter are required, as well as some experience of physics beyond the Standard Model, collider phenomenology, or early universe cosmology such as the physics of the phase transitions. Proficiency in written and spoken English is necessary.

Uppsala University aims for gender balance and diversity in all activities in order to achieve a higher quality at all levels of the organization. We therefore welcome applicants of any gender and with different birth background, functionality and life experience.
