Instructor or Instructional Assistant Professor, Computer Science and Engineering

Chapman University’s Schmid College of Science and Technology seeks applications for a full-time, non-tenure track position in computer science and software engineering starting in the fall of 2018. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in the game development minor, as well as elective courses in the computer science and software engineering major focusing on application development. The appointment will be at the rank of Instructor or Instructional Assistant Professor

A degree in computer science, game development, or graphic design is required for appointment at the Instructor level. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in one of these areas to be considered for an appointment at the Instructional Assistant Professor level.

·         Experience teaching game development and programming courses at the university level, with a history of outstanding teaching evaluations.

·         Industry experience in game design and development utilizing multiple game engines and programming languages including Unity, Unreal, C#, and Java.

•    Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing.
•    Knowledge of computer assisted learning strategies in chemistry.
•    Strong commitment to student learning, quality teaching and academic excellence.
•    Ability to motivate and teach students of diverse learning styles and backgrounds.
•    Appreciation and respect for student role, contribution, and responsibility in the learning process.
•    Commitment to personalized education.

The successful applicant will teach four 3-unit computer science and software engineering courses per semester. These courses may include:

·         CPSC 236 – Visual Programming (C#)

·         CPSC 244 – Level Design I

·         CPSC 245 – Unity Programming

·         CPSC 246 – The Unreal Game Engine

·         CPSC 344 – Level Design II

Responsibilities include lecture preparation, content delivery, administration of exams, and grading of all coursework submitted by students. Secondary teaching, such as mentoring of student projects, is also expected.
