Department of Human Services and Social Work, School of Language, Social and Political Sciences

College of Arts •Full time 37.5hrs •Continuing

The Department delivers two undergraduate programmes: a BA in Human Services and the four-year BSW (Bachelor of Social Work). Postgraduate programmes (BA Hons, MA, MSW and PhD) and a two-year MSW (Applied) are offered; the MSW (Applied) as a blended-learning programme. The two social work professional qualifications are statutorily recognised by the New Zealand Social Workers Registration Board. Both combine academic coursework, alongside intensive skills development and internship experience in the field. Career pathways are very diverse, and include practice and policy roles in community development, research and advocacy along with careers in more traditional fields such as child protection, mental health, health, education, and criminal justice.

We are looking for a focussed, research active individual proficient in teaching and pedagogical practice. Experience as a social worker or an academic, and eligibility for registration with the Social Workers Registration Board is necessary. The ability to foster student learning, provide leadership, and to develop and to contribute more widely to teaching, administration and research across the department, College and wider University is also desirable. The successful applicant must possess a PhD in a subject relevant to social work as well as a professional social work qualification.
