The Department of Romance Languages at the University of Oregon seeks to build a pool of applicants for possible instructional positions in French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish (lower- and upper-division language and culture classes and upper-division literature and linguistics classes). Positions are limited duration appointments potentially renewable for up to a total of three years. In limited circumstances, there is the possibility of renewal beyond three years based on programmatic need, funding and performance. Screening of applications will take place as positions become available and continue until positions are filled. Contract offer is continent upon demonstration of professional-level proficiency (ACTFL Superior, or equivalent) in both English and the target language

Potential courses may include first- and second-year language courses (FR/ITAL/PORT/SPAN 101, 102, 103; 201, 202, 203); third-year language and culture courses ( FR/ITAL/PORT/SPAN 301, 303, 305) and, with appropriate credentials, introductory literature or linguistics courses such as FR 317 or SPAN 322, or advanced undergraduate seminars such as SPAN 420 or SPAN 424. May also include supervision of multi-section language courses.

Applicants must have a master’s degree in the relevant Romance language or related field. Those teaching upper-division literature, culture and linguistics courses (numbers 315 and above) must hold a Ph.D. in the relevant field at the time of appointment.

Our multi-section programs value creative teachers who work well in a collaborative environment, with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Candidates should submit documentation of (1) successful college-level teaching experience appropriate to our lower- and upper-division needs: (2) experience in curriculum development, proficiency assessment, heritage language teaching, service learning, or other areas of program development.
