The Faculty of Engineering at McMaster University has a reputation for innovative programs, cutting-edge research, leading faculty, and aspiring students. The Faculty has approximately 180 faculty members, along with close to 5,500 undergraduate (4,200 in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and 1,250 in the W Booth School of Engineering Practice and Technology), 425 Master’s students, and 340 PhD students.

The W Booth School of Engineering Practice and Technology (SEPT) is home to the McMaster-Mohawk Bachelor of Technology Partnership and hosts a number of professional masters level programs in Engineering Practice oriented to the development of leadership and entrepreneurial competencies.

The School is presently hiring for an Assistant Professor in the area of Biotechnology. The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or a related field. The candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching undergraduate university courses with subject matter expertise and teaching experience in courses such as such as biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology and virology and genomics and proteomics. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required. A demonstrated understanding and commitment to student success, teaching excellence, quality education and applied pedagogical research within a university environment are mandatory. The successful candidate will possess experience in supervision of open-ended design projects and demonstrated interest in pedagogy is essential. Demonstrated effective teaching methods and commitment to adopt modern and innovative teaching approaches, including techniques for online teaching and learning are key components of this role as well as an ability to develop new lab experiments and redesign courses based on learning outcomes and to develop the corresponding assessment tools. Industrial experience and demonstrated leadership roles would be considered a definite asset. The qualified candidate must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures. A professional engineering license, or eligibility for registration, would be considered a definite asset.

While the primary role for this position is teaching (24 credit hours per year), the School expects faculty to engage in committee assignments and to participate in student and school events, as well as other service tasks, as assigned. In addition the successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage in pedagogical research.

The appointment will be contractually limited for a period of up to 3 years in length. The starting date is negotiable and is anticipated to be in the interval January 1, 2019-July 1, 2019. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
