Position Title: Associate professor in experimental astroparticle physics
Position Type:Tenured/Tenure-track faculty
Position Location:Uppsala, Uppsala Lan 75120, Sweden [map]
Subject Area: Physics / Experimental Astroparticle Physics
Appl Deadline:2018/09/04 (posted 2018/06/29, listed until 2018/12/19)
Position Description:

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Uppsala University in Sweden seeks to appoint a tenured associate professor (Swedish universitetslektor) in experimental astroparticle physics. Candidates may already be tenured faculty at other institutions, but the application process is also open to junior scientists who do not yet have faculty positions.

Astroparticle physics research at Uppsala University has strong couplings to the IceCube neutrino observatory. We are also interested in radio-detection of neutrinos at extreme energies. Owing to their particle properties, neutrinos have a unique potential to pinpoint the mysterious, powerful accelerators of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays.

Our research group currently includes 3 faculty members and two PhD students. We are looking for an outstanding candidate with demonstrated research expertise within astroparticle physics or closely related subjects, in particular different aspects relevant for detection of high-energy neutrinos. Experience with and interest in development of future detectors for cosmic neutrinos is a merit. We would like a candidate able to initiate and lead projects, make decisions and take responsibility, and with ability to collaborate internationally.

The position of universitetslektor is a permanent faculty position equivalent to associate professor with tenure in other university systems.  The position includes teaching, research and administration, with teaching typically at the level of 25% of full time.  A universitetslektor typically seeks promotion to full professor within a number of years (or can, in some cases, do so upon being hired) based on qualifications including a strong publication record, proven teaching skills, and having served as the main supervisor for PhD students who have successfully obtained their PhD.

Uppsala University strives to be an inclusive workplace that promotes equal opportunities and diversity. We welcome applications from all sections of the community and from people of all backgrounds.
