Postdoctoral Associate - Biostatistics

The Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at Duke University School of Medicine is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to work with Dr. Terry Hyslop on cancer methods research. Presently, one major project involves the spatial exposures of food deserts and environmental exposures (air pollution and toxics exposures). The plan is to extend Bayesian methods from the literature to allow for two types of spatial/area-level exposures, one of which may diminish based on geo-spatial location within the space (food deserts), and others which will vary in the area around the person’s home location (environmental exposures). Another consideration will be the inclusion of biomarkers, clinical information, and survey data on behavioral measures. While the cohort is in recruitment, we intend to utilize Duke breast patient data to assess time to event outcomes (prognosis, breast cancer specific survival, risk of developing breast cancer, etc.) and association with environmental exposures. We also have data at the state level, which is less granular, so there may be methodological questions to consider when specific geo-location is unknown when determining risk impact.

There will be collaborative opportunities in addition to methodologic opportunities throughout the anticipated two-year post-doc opportunity, which is dependent upon continuation of funding and performance.

Candidates must have a PhD in Biostatistics, Statistics, or related field. Required skills in R, interest in epidemiologic and spatial modeling, strong computer skills, and knowledge of latent modeling is desired, but not required.
