Coordinator of the Adult/Gerontological Primary Care Track

Description: The Coordinator of the Adult/Gerontological Track is appointed by the Dean of the Graduate School of Nursing. The Adult/Gerontological Coordinator provides leadership for the curriculum, faculty, and students for the adult/gerontological NP track. A major responsibility is to oversee the education of students in the track. The Adult/Gerontological coordinator is responsible to the Director of the Adult/Gerontological Programs, the Associate Dean for Advanced Practice Programs, and the Dean.


Administrative  Provides leadership for the implementation and evaluation of the Adult/Gerontological Primary Care (PC) track under the direction of the Director of the Adult/Gerontological programs  Responsible for developing the syllabi, supportive materials, and examinations for the Adult/Gerontological PC population based courses  Works with the Associate Dean of Advanced Practice Programs to ensure the transition of students into the first and second year of the curriculum  Works with the Adult/Gerontological Director on clinical placements for all students in their clinical year  Refers Adult/Gerontological PC students to academic support services as indicated  Serves on GSN and UMMS committees as appointed by the Dean

Curriculum  Guides the curriculum of the Adult/Gerontological PC track to meet the requirements of the Board of Registration in Nursing, National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties Nurse Practitioner Core and Adult/Gerontological Primary Care Competencies, American Association of Colleges of Nursing and The Essentials of Masters Education for Advanced Practice Nursing. Ensures that the curriculum evaluation plan is carried out, and that data is reviewed and communicated to faculty and the Associate Dean for Advanced Practice Programs and the Director of the Adult/Gerontological programs  Reviews the curriculum with the specialty faculty and proposes revisions to the Curriculum Committee  Oversees and liaison to clinical sites utilized by the population courses  Participates in the education of students by teaching in population focused courses

Faculty  Supports and assists faculty in the development of their clinical and classroom teaching skills, curriculum materials, and evaluation of student performance  Oversees faculty’s instruction of students in the didactic/clinical courses  Oversees clinical faculty’s supervision of students in seminar and clinical

Students  Serves as a model of professional nursing leadership for students in the track  Participates in the orientation of students to the GSN and track  Monitors academic and clinical progress of specialty students  Collaborates with the Director of Student Affairs related to the progression of students and attainment of graduation requirements

Recruitment  Collaborates with the Admissions Coordinator in the recruitment of qualified students for the Adult/Gerontological PC track  Reviews student applications and interviews candidates for admission to the Adult/Gerontological PC track  Makes recommendations regarding candidates to the Admissions Coordinator and the Academic Standing and Admissions Committee  Participates in the orientation of students to the track  Clarifies GSN policies through communication with students

Evaluation  Monitors the track to ensure that the GSN evaluation plan is implemented  Reviews evaluation data with faculty teaching in the Adult/Gerontological PC track and with the Director of the Adult/Gerontological programs  Recommends changes and improvements to the track based on evaluation data

This 0.8 FTE, benefitted position. Preferred qualifications. Candidates with a doctoral degree in nursing or related field, prior teaching experience, an active program of practice and/or scholarship are preferred. Salary and rank is commensurate with previous experience. The position will remain open until filled.
