Our faculty members benefit from the strong collaborative culture and the unique intellectual infrastructure of the University of Kentucky. UK is one of the few universities in the U.S. having a major academic medical center with six health sciences colleges including Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Health Sciences and Public Health, and a full spectrum of other academic colleges, all within walking distance of each other. The BME Department has over sixty years of history in biomedical research excellence and is the only named department in the College of Engineering, thanks to a generous gift from our benefactor, a former UK BME program trainee. For candidates who desire to advance their career through true integration of engineering and medicine with clinical relevance, UK provides the right environment for them. Lexington is one of six cities in the U.S. designated as a University City: a city with a major research university in the urban core; a metropolitan population between 250K and 1M; and with students making up more than 10% of that population. The cost of living is low compared with most major metropolitan regions in the U.S. Recreational opportunities (e.g., hiking, cycling, horseback-riding, fishing, hunting, and boating) and art/craft events are enjoyed by many residents.
