Duke University Professor of the Practice in Public Policy Analysis

Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy is seeking to hire a Professor of the Practice or Associate Professor of the Practice. Professors of the Practice are regular-rank faculty members in the Sanford School and participate fully in the life of the school. Primary responsibilities include teaching and mentoring students in the field of public policy analysis, focusing on the School’s two-year professional Master’s of Public Policy (MPP) program, as well as participation in faculty governance and leadership within the school. As part of a faculty team, the successful candidate will be expected to teach core courses that focus on policy analysis, writing and communication for policy audiences, and the practice of working for real-world clients, stakeholders, and policymakers. The successful candidate will also teach elective courses in their areas of interest and expertise.

Qualifications: Candidates should have significant professional experience and accomplishments relevant to one or more important public policy issues and be familiar with the basic techniques, concepts, and theories of public policy analysis and application. Relevant experience could be in public service, or in a leadership role in a nonprofit organization or a business. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in domestic social policy or national security. A graduate degree in public policy, public administration, law, management or related field is required.

The Sanford School includes a full-time faculty of almost 70 and offers an undergraduate major, three master’s programs, and a Ph.D. program. Current faculty members have degrees in a variety of disciplines including: demography, economics, history, law, medicine, philosophy, political science, psychology/social psychology, public policy, public health/health policy, and sociology. The School houses several interdisciplinary research centers, and offers degree-related programs and opportunities in Washington, China, Scotland, India, London and Geneva.
