Assistant Professor of Music

The Department of Music at Benedictine University, a Catholic liberal arts institution near Chicago, seeks candidates for a full-­time tenure track position as Assistant Professor of Music beginning Fall 2019. Founded as a Catholic university in 1887, Benedictine University is located in Lisle, Illinois (named by Money magazine one of the top 20 places to live in the United States) and just 25 miles west of Chicago, with a branch campus in Mesa, Arizona. We seek candidates with the demonstrated potential to contribute effectively to a faculty team dedicated to creating a positive, dynamic, and inclusive learning environment for an increasingly diverse student population.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate Concert Choir, Applied Voice, other courses to fulfill departmental needs (Aural Skills, Music History, Music Theory), and/or other courses according to expertise. Candidates must have a Doctorate (Ed.D, D.M, D.M.A., or Ph.D.) at the time of appointment in Choral Conducting or Music Education (with choral emphasis). Three years of undergraduate-level choral conducting, a research agenda and the potential to continue professional development, and advanced piano performance skills required. Experience with teaching a diverse student body and interest in developing and implementing curricula that address multicultural issues are preferred. Background in inclusive pedagogy a plus.
