Tenure-Track Assistant Professor Position, Computer Science

Appointment to begin Fall 2019

 

The Department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences at Benedictine University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Computer Science with an anticipated start date of August 19, 2019. We seek candidates with interests that would complement the backgrounds of the current faculty. Successful candidates will demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a variety of courses, particularly the foundational Java programming course sequence. The successful applicant is expected to involve and mentor undergraduate students in research. All research areas will be considered; however, of particular interest are areas of rapid growth such as security or data analytics.

 

An earned doctoral degree in Computer Science or another closely related field is required by the start of employment. Prior teaching and/or industry experience is highly desirable. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the USA at the time of appointment. Enrollment in Benedictine’s highly competitive science programs has increased by 20% over the past five years and is the university’s predominant area of study. For the last decade, 30-40% of the incoming first-year students declare majors in the College of Science. There are three departments within the College of Science: Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Mathematical & Computational Sciences. This position would reside in the Mathematical & Computational Sciences department, which is currently comprised of eight full-time faculty. There are four majors offered by this department, including Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, and Mathematics (optional Actuarial Science concentration).
